Chill Diving on Bonaire
Diving on Bonaire is always great especially with friends. There is nothing jaw-dropping to see in this video, just the beautiful sea life on Bonaire. The highlight is around 8:25 in the video where I recorded a turtle bedding down in a soft coral for a nap. I've marked a couple of other highlights below.
I also added some video of our open-air penthouse apartment at Belmar just in case anyone is interested in staying there.
The divers are Jeff, Linda, Victoria, Kim and Tim.

I hope you enjoy our latest dive video from West End Roatán. For me, these videos are a way to remember the experience and recall the many species we see while diving. After trips like this we like to look up the various species in our guides just to learn more about the creatures we encounter and their environment. Most of the many species of fish and other creatures we recorded are listed bel...

Just after descending to dive Thousand Steps, we spotted this turtle bedding down in a soft coral. At first, I thought it was somehow entangled in the coral, but you can see how relaxed the turtle is once it got comfortable.

I don’t think one can ever see enough sea turtles and the nice thing about Roatán is that we saw two or three on every dive. In the first scene, there are two turtles wrestling. I thought it may have been a form of mating behavior so I stayed well away so as to not disturb them. As it turned out, they were jostling over a nice piece of coral to scratch the back of their necks! Like this particu...

This was my first time diving on the West End of Roatán and it did not disappoint. Thanks to the excellent dive guides at Splash Inn Dive Resort and Roatán Divers, we had ample opportunities to observe sea live. In this video, I focused on the eagle ray encounters (and one sting ray). On one dive I saw a group of three eagle rays soaring above the reef. Not fifteen minutes later we encountered ...

    If all the people posting inane immature comments about how animals are just like humans really tried to understand the reality these creatures face and the virtually guaranteed destruction of their habitats and eventual extinction of them and then did something about all these crimes against the planet their would maybe be a chance of saving these 'cuties', but alas people will not do a fucking thing to really help them.

    I suppose by now that you've been told that the Trunkfish at 13:30 looked a lot like a honeycomb cowfish, ànd the Stoplight PF at the end was probably a Queen PF. There may have been another mistake or two, but I liked t he concept and I hope that you'll do another.

    • @timlesniak01
      @timlesniak01 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the observations and for challenging me to look these fish up again! I'm not an expert, but I think in at least these two circumstances I correctly identified the fish. The smooth trunkfish does look a lot like a cowfish shape (and I'm guessing by shape they're closely related), but the pattern of dots are more trunkfish. As for the stoplight parrotfish, the thing that stands out to me are the bright colors on the tail. If you look this the stoplight pf up on wikipedia the photo shows the same tail pattern. I couldn't find photos of a queen pf that have that tail pattern. BTW, soon after I posted this video, I did get a bunch of corrections and additions. I posted a second video (linked in the description) that has the additional info.

      @Tim Lesniak Hi Tim. It's very nice of you to reply so quickly. About the trunkfish or cowfish (they're related, I believe) the coloring is very much like the trunkfish, and that's What I thought until the end of the clip when he turned and I thought I saw the honeycomb pattern. As for the parrot fish, it was also the coloration, but today see exactly what you mean about the tail, so I'm going to withdraw my statement. Also, you had eyeballs on it, and that's far superior to looking at a video. Allow me to share the website I use for reference: reefguide.org/carib/index6.html. Again, thanks for this beautiful and informative video. I used to dive regularly and have taken three trips to Bonaire (and Aruba) before all the coral bleaching. But I am now too old and disabled to manage it, so, I dive by proxy with these videos thanks to folks like you. 👏 Best wishes, Tim. 👌
